This property has its own identity whilst embodying Korean culture
The house expo was held in Gang Nam about 20 years ago. This 'expo town' consisted of low-rise dwellings, each individually designed by prominent South Korean architects at the time.
Go On Jai was built on a site in 'expo town'. IROJE KHM Architects have ensured that this property has its own identity whilst embodying Korean culture.
The internal design and internal courtyard (‘Madang’) layout of this house maximises privacy and security for the residences, whilst maintaining views of surrounding mountains.
The spaces and layout of the house was to create a place for ‘strolling’. The architects wanted to design a space where the owners felt like they were “constantly strolling in their own world”.
The oval patterns on the concreted walls were derived from tradition stones walls are a reminder of Koreas history.
The curved and cantilevered roof pays homage to historical Korean architecture (‘Cheoma’) whilst providing an edgy and modern take on the classic.
